South Korean national soccer team forward Hwang Eui-jo (pictured) has joined Norwich City of the English Football League Championship (second tier) on a one-year loan to get some game time.
“We are pleased to announce the loan signing of South Korea national team striker Hwang Eui-jo, number 31,” the club said on its website.
It’s a glimmer of hope for a player who hasn’t had much success in his career.
Hwang made his debut in the English Premier League (EPL) in August 2022 when he joined Nottingham Forest from Bordeaux (France), but was immediately loaned to Olympiakos (Greece), where he struggled.
In February of this year, Hwang opted for a six-month short-term loan to K League 1 side FC Seoul, but returned to his original club Nottingham last month. He made regular appearances in preseason matches and raised expectations by competing for a starting spot. 온라인바카라
However, Hwang hasn’t actually taken the field since the start of the 2023-2024 season. He was named on the substitutes’ bench but never got a chance to play. Eventually, he was loaned out to Norwich City, where he got his chance to play.
“I’m happy to be at Norwich City, and I hope to help the team as much as possible and play as soon as possible,” Hwang told the club.
Norwich head coach David Wagner added: “It’s been a patient process, but I’m delighted we’ve finally been able to bring him in. He has experience at the highest level at both club and international level. We’re really looking forward to seeing what he can do.”
Will it be a breakthrough? Norwich City finished last in the Premier League in the 2021-2022 season and were relegated to the second tier. Norwich City is second in the Championship this season with three wins and one draw (10 points), behind Leicester City (12 points). The Canaries are in need of striker reinforcements as key striker Joshua Surgeon is out of the lineup with an ankle injury.
Hwang’s move to Norwich City has been finalized, but his debut is expected to be against Stoke City on April 16. Hwang will first be called up to the national team for two A-match trials against Wales (away) on Aug. 8 and Saudi Arabia (neutral-England) on Aug. 13 before rejoining the squad to prepare for his England debut.
