In the end, Moreno laughed in the rivalry battle that took place on four occasions.
Interim champion Brandon Moreno (29, Mexico) defeated flyweight champion Davidson Figueredo (35, Brazil) in an unprecedented fourth round to ascend to the flyweight throne.
Davidson Figueredo and Brandon Moreno battled for the flyweight title in the co-main event of ‘UFC 283: Teixeira vs. The Hill’ held at the Jeunesse Arena in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil on the 22nd (Korean time).
It is the first UFC event in Brazil in about three years since the Corona 19 pandemic. Brazil’s proudest UFC stars, including Mauricio Shogun Hua, Glover Teixeira, and Davidson Figueredo, all mobilized.
Figueredo was supported by the Brazilian home crowd. “In the last two matches, I felt that 85% of the crowd was Mexican. Now Moreno fights in Brazil. All the spectators are on my side.”
Figueredo boasts a tough relationship with Moreno, like a trick of fate. In his first fight at UFC 256, he drew with Moreno.
Afterwards, he had a second fight at UFC 263, but lost the championship belt to Moreno due to deterioration of condition during weight loss. At UFC 270, he defeated Moreno in his third fight and title challenge to regain the championship belt.
Therefore, Figueredo and Moreno recorded 1 win, 1 draw and 1 loss against each other. Ahead of UFC 283, there was a lot of anticipation to see who would break the pendulum.
Former champion Moreno wanted to put an end to his rivalry with Figueredo. He said, “This is the last dance. My plan is to definitely end the rivalry with this match. I have already finished a Figueredo. I will finish once again.”
The two hit the limit at 125 pounds (56.7 kg).
Throughout the match, the two competed tightly in wrestling and jiu-jitsu. Figueredo attempted heel hooks and guillotine chokes on Moreno, but Moreno withstood them all.
There was a problem in the 3rd round. While exchanging blows with Moreno in a standing situation, Figueredo collapsed complaining of pain in his right eye. Thumbing was suspected, but the referee allowed the match to proceed. Afterwards, Figueredo couldn’t resist Moreno’s pressure on the ground at all. Figueredo’s right eye was badly torn.
In the end, it was judged to be a left hook, not summing. Figueredo couldn’t open his eyes at all. The medical staff checked Figueredo’s condition, and eventually the referee declared Moreno the winner by TKO in the third round.
The Brazilian home fans booed the result. A shower of water was captured on camera as Moreno was leaving after the match. 먹튀검증
